Volnay recently hosted a blind tasting for 80 women to taste 60+ Volnays. Why? People believe Volnay is a "feminine" wine so women should pick the best Volnay. The result? The highly qualified female tasters voted for the
Clos des Chênes from Bitouzet-Prieur. An excellent wine, but also considered the most muscled, butch, tannic and masculine wine in Volnay! This Volnay from the Domaine Parigot was aged 30% in new oak barrels producing a nose of plum, black cherry and background oak. Once imbibed it offers ripe red fruits, without being sweet, mouth filling fine tannins, a bit meaty, and fairly serious Volnay. Needs another 2 years to meld and open up. A quality wine.
