Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Les Frionnes" 2004, Hubert Lamy

I recently discovered a new fruit (to me) the Pomelo, show above, which tastes like a sweet grapefruit and has incredibly thick pith. This ripe citrus flavour is the enduring characteristic of the chilly 2004 Burgundy vintage -- wonderful in white, diabolical in red. This Frionnes from the Domaine Hubert Lamy has a super, brassy, light-gold colour with perfect transparency. Almond, vanilla, pomelo, lemon tart aromas which are gentle and enticing. Thick, spicy citrus fruit flavours on the palate with a lively acidity and underlying minerality. This is a superb 2004 Saint-Aubin, drinking very well now and has perhaps another 2 years worth of ageing potential before the fruit will fall away. Ideal companion for chicken fricassee with citrus confit. And a dash of Pomelo!
