Echézeaux 2000, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

We were lucky enough to procure the final bottle of this DRC Echézeaux at a pre-Christmas lunch at the restaurant of the Tate Britain Museum. On the whole, 2000 was a medium-to-light vintage so tasting a DRC after only 9 years makes sense. This DRC lives up to the reputation of the domaine. Superb concentration, pure and rich pinot fruit aromas of blackberry, raspberry, cassis and wild strawberry. Delightful pinot sweetness with hints of bird game and balanced power on the palate. Superb with food now and will develop more tertiary aromas for hedonistic drinking up to 2014. The only wine to compare is a Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2000 tasted in May 2008.
