Gevrey-Chambertin "Clos du Meix des Ouches" 2007, Domaine des Varoilles
The Domaine des Varoilles owns parcels of vines in some of the best grands crus on the Côte-de-Nuits such as Bonnes Mares and Clos de Vougeot. But in my view the best test of a Côte-de-Nuits producer is their village appellation wines. This Gevrey villages is aged in 10 per cent new oak and was picked late, September 25th onwards. The result? Excellent concenrated berry fruit aromas with an intermingling of spices. Tons of fruit, fine tannins and an excellent structure. This is as good as the Gevrey from other top producers like Drouhin-Laroze.
