Courtesy of the Corney & Barrow Burgundy 2007 tasting. The idea of a monopole always adds a sense of expectation to a wine but there is no guarantee of better quality. One could own a monopole in an average vineyard. This Clos des Varoilles monopole is far above average. Phew! Regal richness on the nose, a deep purple colour, its almost excessive in its lushness and ripeness. Very concentrated and impressive. The result of late picking. Save it for guests who prefer claret-style Burgundy.
