Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "En Remilly" 2000, Domaine Hubert Lamy
We popped the cork on this top premier cru from Saint-Aubin and were treated to a strong whiff of manzanilla sherry. Thankfully this cleared up and switched to tarte tatin, yellow leaves and dried oranges. In tune with the aromas this 2000 unfortunately showed its age -- the once tasty orange and apple fruit has dried out. There is still weight, marzipan flavour and bake apple fruit. The wine is obviously past its peak and raises the question of whether the En Remilly vineyard, just up the hill from some famous Puligny 1er crus, really merits its status as a Puligny substitute.
