Gevrey-Chambertin 2001, Perrot-Minot
The domaine Perrot-Minot has an impressive range of top quality reds from the Côte de Nuits including multiple grands crus in Gevrey and 1er crus in Chambolle, Gevrey and NSG. We tasted this 2001, which I expected to be a benchmark Gevrey from a dependable vintage, at a Chelsea restaurant. Unfortunately the first bottle was slightly orf (which we sent back) and the second was not impressive. Restrained stalky aromas give way to a slightly mean rhubarb and green tomato flavour. The wine is short and uninteresting like an all womens shortlist Labour Party MP (Georgius Lawrieatus culpa). A shame because their Mazoyers-Chambertin 1999 was mindblowing.
