Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru 2000, Guy Bocard

Once in a blue moon one tastes a wine that exceeds all expectations -- this is one of those rare examples. I opened this wine as a courtesy to my friend Steve who bought the wine a few years ago but has since lived in Moscow and err... Pittsburgh. The year 2000 was a light vintage in pinot and Auxey is not known for its reds -- but this is an absolutely tremendous wine. Sumptuous thick ripe raspberry, cassis and blueberry aromas with a swirl of vanilla oak. And the colour is impressively deep. The noble sensation continues on the palate with a broad palate of blueberry, strawberry and black cherry fruit. Excellent length and breadth and incredibly could evolve for a further 3 years. Chapeau!
