Meursault "Les Tessons" 2001, Jean-Philippe Fichet

Jean-Philippe Fichet is an established quality producer in Meursault. This "Tessons" from 2001, the most classic vintage prior to 2004, is a case in point. Apricot, pear and butter shortbread aromas. Concentrated yellow stone fruit on the palate offering a powerful texture propped up by a girder of limestone minerality and acidity. Monsieur Fichet typically does more batonnage of his wines than the norm which adds flesh. But there is much less oak than Meursaults made for the American palate. Charles Ryder would appreciate this traditional style. This 2001 has another 3 years of evolution left. Tasted at Hunan, a superb Taiwanese restaurant in Chelsea.
