Chablis 2006, André Tremblay
To some Chablis is a classic learner's wine, to others a too-expensive white Loire and still others a fascinating product of the argilo-calcaire (limestone/clay) terroir. Indeed Chablis can be all of these things given the vast expanse of the vineyards: 3,000 hectares compared to 210 hectares in Puligny. Here is a good view of the Chablis vineyards. This village-level wine is a perfectly acceptable example. A pleasant light yellow colour followed by aromas of egg-yolk brushed baked pastry, chalk and light clover honey. Balanced and tangy citrus fruit on the palate blending lemon and satsuma. A pleasant plumpness and good depth. Ideal companion for fruits de mer.
