The
Comte Armand domaine is one of the great Burgundy domaines that makes wine for long cellaring. We tasted this Pommard at the
Tate Britain restaurant in a half-bottle format. The colour was remarkably thick and intense like claret or Cornas with a mature rim. Olfactory sensation strong from the start with damson, coffee and cassis with some elements of cave-aged cheese rind. The bouquet is very rich and broad with underlying schwarzbrot, dates and tea. This impressive wine is somewhat porty and a tad oxidized on the palate with dark dried fruits, a fiery finish, its a little dried out with a charcoal element. Overall the style is almost Pomerol-like with a dry leathery texture. If Borat were tasting this he would say: "Wow wow wow!" The photo was taken on June 24, 2007.
