Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Truffieres" 2004, Louis Latour
The golden cat says "make money, make money" and thats what the Louis Latour domaine does with its 50 hectares of vineyards and 29 hectares of Burgundy grand cru. But does big grand cru mean big quality? Not quite with this wine tasted blind. A robust yellow bronze colour, first aromas of vanilla and melon, then yellow flowers (daffodlil), creamy and lemon curd, after 10 minutes evolved to a warm peachy nose with suggestions of Mediterranean sunshine and mandarins. On the palate cherry fruit, fresh, chalky texture, prematurely giving. This wine has been made to drink well from the day its bottled. Pleasing now but miles below what could be achieved with a Truffiere. The lieu-dit is up on the hill above Puligny close to Saint-Aubin. Hats off to Ya-hui, Louise and Peter for their tasting notes.
