Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Chaignots" 1999, Robert Chevillon

Rich cherry red colour which impresses. Initial nose is full on straw-manure and Marrakech mule. Unmistakable. Becomes more plum and cherry but even after 20 minutes aeration doesn't come out of its shell. A hint of seaweed, strawberry and sea-soaked black labrador. Surprising elegance on the palate. Great cherry fruit concentration, sweetness, and most satisfying length. A peasant cockle picker on the nose and a luxuriating jack of diamonds on the palate. I could criticise the crass bouquet but not the wine since the flavour and quality on the palate counterbalance splendidly.
