Auxey-Duresses Vieilles Vignes 2004, Michel Prunier

A rich and dark yellow green gold colour which suggested more evolution than the three years this wine has had. White truffles, lemon sponge, citrus and burnt match on the empty glass. Broad citrus fruit, ripe lemon and apricot, residual sugar. Style more like a sunshine 2003 than the typically elegant 2004s. Deceptive and atypical. More like a potent Chassagne from a lieu-dit like Morgeot. Tasted blind during England's victory over Australia in the Rugby World Cup then followed by a barbeque cooked on an "Outback". Like this Auxey the England performance was deceptive and triumphant.
