Pouilly-Fuisse 2006, Marinot-Verdun

Like the French town of Verdun as evoked by the name on the label, this Pouilly has taken a pounding - but at the hands of the wine maker rather than the German artillery. Its technically correct with a fresh clean white gold colour, lemon and wax nose, pear fruit with a boiled sweet texture on the palate, and a certain glossy style. But this isn't Pouilly as it should be -- fresh vibrant fruits, floral nose, power and elegance on the palate. Check the other Pouilly tasting notes on the blog or buy some Cordier or Domaine des Gerbeaux. Great Pouilly can get close to Corton-Charlemagne.
