Marsannay 2003, Bruno Clair

The Bruno Clair domaine is located in Marsannay and was created in 1985 when the famous 38 hectare Clair-Dau estate was divided up and partly sold to Maison Louis Jadot. This Marsannay has a thick red purple colour. On the nose, port-soaked raisins, cooked berries, dates, sun-soaked. Medium tannins, and medium acidity softened by the wrapping of ripe cassis and strawberry fruit. Good length from the ripe fruit. Needs to be consumed by the end of 2008 as the lopsided 2003 structure will capsize with more than 5 years of bottle age. Tasted blind amid a certain amount of chaos with two teams competing against each other. The super-ripe 2003 vintage characteristics tempted the teams into labelling this as either cote du rhone or Rioja.
