Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2005, Heresztyn

Thich cherry red colour. Initial aromas of spice particularly pepper. Background berry fruit but the fruit aromas remain reticent at this stage. Medium to high acidity, thick tannins balanced by ripe cassis and plum fruit. The vines are on average 70 years old giving real oomph and concentration to the wine. Aged in 50% new oak barrels this is designed to be matured for another 4 years before popping the cork with some grilled lamb or Charolais beef. Demonstrates the high-level that even a Gevrey village wine can reach.
