Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Aux Beaux Bruns" 1998, Ghislaine Barthod

A tasting note from Jezza tasted in the perfect conditions of his home. Pretty thick colour for a Chambolle with a much more pronounced purple hue than many despite almost ten years in the bottle. Immediately savoury nose with definite sous-bois and slightly vegetal aromas being the first to show. This wine evolved a lot in the glass with some of the tart red fruit (redcurrants) only becoming apparent later but once they did the wine gained a real sense of balance although still not quite the archetypal Chambolle. Nonetheless very good on the palate with all the sweeter and savoury notes coming together with softened tannins to provide that ineffable elegance of the Cote de Nuits. At its peak and no need to hang around.
