Pommard 2002, Fery-Meunier
Tasting note from our Saffron Walden correspondent Cobbie. Translucent red colour with underpowered legs. This is more Renault Twingo than Renault Espace. The first nose is quickly revealing with modest slightly-green plum fruit. Over time it evolves to fuzzy almond, vanillins, menthol, and a delicate aniseed/licorice. Slightly off-putting furniture polish whiff. The fruit weight on the palate is more concentrated than the nose suggests its a little astringent without being too tannic. Further cellaring would soften the wine although the modest fruit may wither. Overall good value for money. The photograph shows the Pommard lieu dit les Perrieres and the tree-lined road from Beaune to Meursault.
