Pernand-Vergelesses 2002, Rollin Pere & Fils

Medium red colour, very clear, with a slightly pink rim. Red currants, tart cassis, loganberry and red cherry on the nose. The aromas are clear and fine. Evolve to riper notes. Second nose hits cooked rhubarb, oak vanillins and sweet red apple. Medium tangy acidity, medium red berry fruit with a citrus edge, fresh in style rather than savoury, tannins relatively light and smooth, fully mature on the palate. Delightfully honest wine and tres typique. Reached its apogee. More of a corn-fed chicken wine with an olive provencal sauce than a pigeon, partridge, or pheasant wine. Lacks the oomph to cope with gamey flavours.
