Gevrey-Chambertin 1999, Serafin

Tasted blind. A relatively thick plummy/cherry colour suggests the power on the nose. Even at 1am, the day after a wedding and a substantial dinner, this wine impressed and opened up to offer concenrated plums, humid sousbois, and rich black cherries. Real minerality evoking the famous Gevrey limestone combes. On the palate the minerality, structure, and overall Cote de Nuits character shine through. This wine could have been nothing other than a fine Cote de Nuits. Great today but has another 4 years of full evolution left. This wine is what Burgundy is about!
