Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos Saint Jean" 2004, Domaine Amiot Guy

This white Chassagne has a light to medium yellow straw colour with a fresh aspect. The aromas open up delicately with fragrant oak and citrus, then white flowers, and a soupcon of honeysuckle. The second nose is more dominated by apricot and bees wax. The palate is fleshy serving up honeydew melon, nutmeg, and possibly white pepper. The overall impression is full and rich with the fruit dominating the acidity but not overpowering. If this wine were a woman the French would say: "Il y a du monde au balcon". Plenty to think about! After the rich fruit the savoury finish cups, tempts and uplifts. Will become more complex over the next 3 years. A big Chassagne and a very different style from Bernard Moreau.
