Vosne-Romanne 1er Cru "Les Rouges" 2004, Jean Grivot

This is a photo of the 1er cru "Les Rouges" vineyard from the Domaine Jean Grivot website. Medium-red/purple in colour, this Vosne starts with a mineral, stony nose, switches to new oak, and then hits a herbal (not herbaceous) nerve with rosemary and thyme. On the palate it is impressively thick and tannic, also chalky, linear, and inaccessible. Requires retasting since it promises much but conceals itself.
