Volnay 2004, Marquis d'Angerville
Another bottle in the blind tasting. Reflective red/purple colour. Initial aromas of red berries, slightly sweet, moving on to obvious new oak, crushed black currants, licorice and cloves. In the mouth this is a savoury, dry, verging on sour wine with medium acidity and medium tannins. Hard to see how it would improve over time given the lack of ripe fruit on the palate. On reflection: the group of blind tasters were surprised by our own notes on this wine since we expected more from such a prestigious domaine.
