Santenay 1er Cru "Clos Faubard" 2005, Lucien Muzard

Tasted on June 23, 2007 at Le Gourmandin in Beaune. Dark cherry colour. Legs of a middle-distance runner: medium thickness and they keep going. First nose has immediate impact with sweet blackberries and cassis. Oak aromas come through. Not much evolution given the young age. Toasty final aromas. Big ripe tannins, sweet black berry fruits, even a hint of dates which is rare for Cote de Beaune wines, flattering and voluptuous with an angora texture. Slightly off balance due to a lack of acidity. Much closer to 2003 than 2004. The type of wine that puts a smile on your face.
