Morey-Saint-Denis 2004, Meo-Camuzet

The photo shows the Meo-Camuzet cellars but the wine was tasted blind with other 2004 Burgundies. The red/purple colour and vibrant violet rim introduce a first nose of red currants and fresh strawberries which continue on a clear trajectory into pure and elegant berry fruit. The final nose is seductive red berries with a hint of spice. The olfactory ouverture continues into the first act on the palate with superb fruit, elegance and a perfect balance reminiscent of the English ballerina Darcy Bussell. This splendid wine has a long finish with earthy tones. Will peak in 2009 when the complexity of the aromas will be expressed. I asked Jean Nicholas Meo for his perspective. Here are his notes: Je vous remercie pour vos commentaires élogieux sur ce vin. Je l'ai moi même goûté récemment et j'ai été surpris par son côté délicieux et somme toute assez complet. C'est la première fois que nous faisions un Morey et je n'étais pas entièrement satisfait : je trouvais le vin facile, rond mais manquant un peu de profondeur. Rien de tel actuellement, le vin semble s'être amélioré et approfondi en bouteille. Je pense qu'il s'est équilibré de lui-même et qu'il faut le boire maintenant dans cet état!
