Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Virondot" 2005, Marc Morey & Fils

Tasted on June 24, 2007 at a picnic table in Vosne-Romanee. Light green-gold in colour, reflective with good legs. First nose very yeasty. Slow evolution towards ripe tangerine, vanilla icing, and warm apricot. Medium acidity, ripe pear, apple and peach fruit. This is a ripe vintage for white Burgundy and the style is “tres flatteur”. Aromas and to some extent fruit weight like a Condrieu. Confirms that 2004 was a much more classic white Burgundy vintage than 2005 which had more sun than usual. The vignerons tend to prefer 2004 whites over 2005, and think 2006 whites will be better than 2005.
