Meursault 1998, Guy Bocard

Tasted blind with the Forrester team this Meursault Vieilles Vignes 1998 from Guy Bocard is a medium yellow wine with an orange edge. The aromas started with a citrus marinade and greek mushrooms (soaked in retsina and tomato flesh). The bouquet evolved to crushed lemons and a touch of orange marmalade with an umami overtone. After 15 minutes of aeration we picked up white strawberry and young cassis berries. On the palate the structure was very mature evoking poetry rather than fruit salad. Overall the wine offered Monnet on the nose and the conceptual ascetics of Mondrian on the palate. Intriguing and fully developed.
