Fixin 2015, Pierre Gelin

When we visited the domaine M. Gelin told us that they have historically sold more mature wines from the cellar door so private clients can understand how the wines evolve. This is definitely sensible and admirable in a village like a Fixin. This village wine has a flattering raspberry and strawberry nose with a whiff of vanilla. Linear, good freshness for 2015, structured. This Fixin is produced from an assemblage of grapes in different parts of Fixin, from both clay and limestone soils, producing a harmonious wine. Reflecting the confidence of the wine maker in the ripe 2015 fruit this was made with 30% whole bunch fermentation. Photo shows the Clos Napoleon.
