Echezeaux Grand Cru 2008, Domaine François Lamarche
A second wine in a blind-tasting, this Echezeaux was a bottle I purchased from the domaine in either 2010 or 2011. The nose is quiet, closed. Some whiffs of gibier and suede leather. After a quarter hour there are elements of raisins, seaweed and shiitake. Not much fruit to speak off and not at all potent. Raspberry and rhubarb flavours on the palate. This Grand Cru is fresh, tight and not at all impressive. None of the tasters spotted this as a Grand Cru. Frankly it doesn’t deserve the label given the lack of concentration and complexity. Scores 70/100 which is very poor for a Grand Cru.
