Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015, Domaine des Varoilles

Final wine tasted at the domaine in Gevrey, this grand cru has an open nose of blueberry, blackberry and white chocolate. Complimented by a touch of buttered toast. This is a ripe, dense nose... as one expects from a grand cru. Very concentrated on the palate with lovely black fruit flavours, rich and impressive. More on the side of power than finesse at this stage. Needs another five years to fully explode into life but as is common with the 2015s it has tasted well more or less since being bottled. Scores 87-92/100.
