Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru “Les Saint-Georges” 2008, Robert Chevillon

Tasted blind with my neighbour in Puligny Jo Rodin, I was able to enjoy the wine without any bias creeping in. We were summarily dismissed from a pre-booked tasting chez Chevillon a few years ago. Complex nose of ripe berries, musk and sous bois. Blood orange and sweet bush spices. Fruit tends towards darker tree fruit. The palate is more typical of the 2008 vintage: raspberry, red currant, ripe rhubarb and red cherry. Vibrant Pinot acidity gives this Grand Cru pretender excellent length. The ripeness of the bouquet led me to guess this was a Vosne 2010. In blind-tasting terms this puts me on the wrong planet but not in an entirely different galaxy. Scores 90/100.
