Volnay “Vendanges Selectionées” 2010, Michel Lafarge

Domaine Lafarge is widely considered to be one of the benchmark Volnay producers although styles vary significantly across the village. Lafarge elder bears some similarity to Gandalf and it appears he does have a magical touch. This Volnay from the pretty 2010 vintage has a medium to light raspberry red colour. Transparent, very much at the light end of the spectrum. Sweet aniseed note, dried orange peel, cranberry, fragrant, wild strawberry, pine nut. Beautifully perfumed. Med to light body, refreshing, mineral, intellectual, Flaubertian. Dry but not dried out. Medium to low tannin and tangy acidity. A classic, unapologetic pinot. Scores 83-86/100.
