Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Narbantons" 2008, Michel & Joanna Ecard

This producer will always have a special place in my heart (and liver) as I first visited the domaine in the early 1990s when Michel and Joanna's father Maurice was producing the wines. A Savigny benchmark. More importantly, this wine was served at my wedding in the 2009 vintage! A rich red colour with a hint of dark brick on the rim. There is earth, red apple, licorice root, dried strawberry, pencil lead, rye bread and an etching of bitter chocolate. Chewy, plum and cherry, savoury, significant tannins still, medium plus acidity, a touch sour. Like most 2008s this is a great food wine. A touch too aggressive to be imbibed solo. Scores 72/100.
