Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014, Wet Jacket Wines

Having missed out on a bottle of Wet Jacket pinot noir at Milford Sound Lodge after we arrived completely soaked from the Milford Track we made a bee line for the winery from our base near Arrowtown. This pinot has a nose of plum and cherry fruit. Touches of vanilla from 27% new oak which is at the top end of new oak for Central Otago wines. Violets, smoky, leather hints. There is superbly pure and weighty berry fruit. Medium tannins. Minerality on the finish reflecting the schist soil. A charry element. Very well made wine. And the history of the name comes from soaked travellers in Milford Sound.
