Vosne-Romanée "Aux Réas" 1999, AF Gros

Tasted blind at the annual Bufties Post-Christmas luncheon this red Burgundy had clearly passed the peak of its powers. The nose was concentrated on dried raspberry and shrivelled red currants with elements of old manuscript and cloves. On the palate much of the fruit had evaporated leaving a tangy, savoury wine with hints of sour plums. Too old to score and shows how impressively well the Echezeaux 2001 matured. Photo shows the team tucking into the reds in preparation for some amazing home made confit de canard.
