Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Fourneaux" 2012, Domaine Rapet

Domaine Rapet is one of the points of reference for the wines of Pernand-Vergelesses including the grands crus made on the hill of Corton. We tasted at the domaine before indulging in an uber-modern Japanese dinner in the two Michelin star restaurant Le Charlemagne (Jenson Buttonhurst was not impressed by this foreign imposter in the midst of Burgundy's vineyards and threw his corkscrews out of his pram). So this Savigny... 20% to 30% of the grapes were whole-bunch fermented due to the ripe stems. The first nose is iodine, aniseed, red apple. There is good finesse, its ripe, mineral and made in a dry style. A cherry finish which is a trademark of Savigny reds. Perhaps a touch light on the fruit. The style is severe definitely not early drinking. Scores 19-23/30 for a Savigny 1er Cru.
