Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Maltroie" 2007, Bernard Moreau
Sixth and final wine in a blind-tasting hosted this weekend in Puligny. In my opinion, this domaine is oddly overlooked by the Burgundy wine media. Since 2004, their whites and reds have exuded quality. The colour of this Chassagne 1er Cru 2007 is a medium yellow indicating some age and there is a tinge of brass. First nose is there straight away with peach and vanilla. But the aromas are still fruit-centric on peach and apricot. Secondary aromas harder to pin down. This helps suggest the maturity of the wine. Medium+ body, medium+ acidity shows this is from a ripe and fresh vintage. It's not overly ripe but it is rich and fruity. There is cooked apple, apricot, pear juice. Pleasant. A touch plump and attractive minerality on the finish. Scores 24/30 for a Chassagne 1er Cru.
