Meursault 2011, Comtes Lafon

One of the many factors that helps this domaine keep its quality levels higher than most other Côte d'Or producers is that the large vineyard holdings in Meursault create a quality pyramid which enables Dominique Lafon and his team to declassify Meursault premiers crus into the Meursault villages wine. This is not possible for producers who have small parcels of Meursault, Chassagne and Puligny. This 2011 Meursault is one example as it contains several barrels of declassified wine - and there are 52 in total! Tasted at the domaine this Meursault 2011 from Comtes Lafon starts on a clear lemon note, but the nose is still closed. This chardonnay has the trade-mark consistency and texture of the domaine, there is ripe lemon, some sweetness and a suave impression. Hard to anticipate evolution, scores 24-26 / 30 for a Meursault.
