Meursault 1er Cru "Genevrières" 2011, Comtes Lafon

I felt a frisson when I drank this generous pour from the bottle because I visited the domaine in the summer of 2011 and contributed my enzymes to the 2009 in barrel. The Comtes Lafon vines are in Genevrières dessus (the upper part of the vineyard) which they consider to be superior to the dessous section. Something tells me that those wine-makers who own Genevrières-Dessous may disagree. The nose on this 2011 Meursault-Genevrières contrasts strongly with the other wines in the portfolio with creamy notes, crème patissier, turkish delight and icing sugar. Seemingly this is heavily marked by vanillins in the new oak. This Meursault premier cru recovers its poise on the palate with flavours of ripe red apple, lemon and orange. There is complexity but no wow factor. Scores 22-26/30 for a Meursault premieur cru.
