Corton-Renardes Grand Cru 2000, Francois Gay

The Domaine Francois Gay has a low media profile, but I have never found that stops people from making great wines! A medium red colour with a Buckinghamshire brick rim, there is an initial nose of strawberry, meat jus, pomegranate. Spicy, saline, iodine after 5 minutes. Then gets riper and offers more purple fruits... black currant, plum. Fine, mature, tangy, balanced, leathery and drying out. Very good, definitely at the end of its life but its had a great run. Scores 22/30 for a Corton grand cru. Photo shows the tasting in full flow.
