Clos de Vougeot "Cuvée Classique" 2011, Château de la Tour

Tasted courtesy of the Corney & Barrow annual Burgundy tasting, I always approach a young Clos de Vougeot with a sense of of trepidation given the four-square structure. The Château de la Tour was built in 1890 by the ancestors of the current owners, the Labet and Déchelette families. Today the wine is produced by François Labet who also vinifies the wine of Domaine Pierre Labet and speaks excellent English. This Burgundy Grand Cru from the variable 2011 vintage is somewhat jammy on the nose, there are currants, olives, its warm, there is oak. Cherries, dark, tannins, sour, like a nebbiolo. Concerns that the weird climatic conditions have resulted in a wine that is a little hollow. Wait 10 years and find out? Scores 17-22 / 30 for a Clos de Vougeot.
