Beaune 1er Cru "Les Aigrots" 2010, Michel Lafarge

This Beaune lieu dit is perched high up the slope towards Pommard quite close to the famous "Clos des Mouches". This implies a terroir with good drainage which will offer more finesse and less power than the Beaune wines on the valley floor like "Les Cents Vignes". The nose begins on red currant (groseille), it gives a crystalline impression, then cherry and a whole medley of summer berry fruits. There is sweetness without any hint of over-ripeness. Aged 15% in new oak, since the domaine aims for long-lived wines not early pleasers, this still has a fresh cherry flavour and lively acidity. Promises to be a fine wine, like all of the Michel Lafarge wines, needs a decade to evolve. Scores 21-25 / 30 for a Beaune 1er Cru. Photo shows "Les Aigrots" looking towards "Les Petits Noizons" of Pommard and the four square Pommard church. For a cracking dinner and a great view of the Pommard church I heartily recommend going to Aupres du Clocher where you can eat an epoisses mousse with gingerbread croutons. Wild!
