Meursault "Clos de la Barre" 2008, Domaine des Comtes Lafon

An earlier vintage of the Clos de la Barre tasted from a bottle this time at the domaine. Here are the tasting notes for the 2009 and the 2007. This Meursault 2008 confirms my belief that the 2008 vintage will be one of the most intriguing for white Burgundy in the last 10 years. Citrus, a dash of lime, this is a nervous and prickly nose. Even a hint of basil. Superb mineral freshness on the palate, its still very tight, citrus and mineral. For many 2008 will be forgotten because of Lehman Brothers and the craze over 2009. But just like Bordeaux, 2001 has ended up being much better than the heavily marketed 2000s. So we will find that 2008 whites at least will fascinate more than the flattering 2009s.
