Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Clos de la Chatenière" 2001, Hubert Lamy
In 2009 I tasted a 2002 from this lieu-dit and concluded that I should have consumed the wine a couple of years earlier. Can a good Saint-Aubin producer craft a wine that ages gracefully over 10 years? I'm delighted to say yes! Glorious deep yellow-gold colour. Buttery, leeks, marzipan, orange. A pleasing rich and complex nose. Broad, mature, gentle citrus flavours on the mid-palate. A hint of autumn leaves and asparagus. Chalk dust on the finish (do I hear McEnroe ranting?) and a touch of residual sugar on the lips. Stunning wine tasted at its peak of complexity.
