Auxey-Duresses "Les Crais" 2006, Alain Gras

Can a wine maker who squeezes the maximum from friendly appellations like Auxey and St Romain make magnificent Meursault? I hope to find out when Alain Gras buys a parcelle of Puligny or Meursault-Charmes. This Auxey 2006 reflects the sunny vintage characterstics. On the nose buttered toast, gourd, marrow, almond, galette des rois. Elegant fragrance. Cooked yellow fruits, savoury nut edges, mid-palate flavours of pear and artichoke. Refreshing without any obvious acidity. Drinking perfectly now this is a tremendous Auxey. Unbeatable! Photo shows Auxey in mid-July 2010.
