Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos Saint Jean" 2004, Domaine Amiot Guy

I have never resolved to my satisfaction if this domaine is M. GUY Amiot or M. AMIOT Guy. All very confusing, especially after a few snifters of white Chassagne on a sunny day in May. Mysteries aside, this is a blockbuster Chassagne that is more Pouilly-Fuisse and Margaret River than Cote de Beaune. Honeyed, potent, pineapple, super-ripe apricot and buttered toast on the nose. Remarkably this is exactly the same bouquet offered by the wine in May 2006 when purchased at the domaine. Evolves to a glorious lemon sponge cake with vanilla icing. Chunky yellow fruits on the palate and a suitable lacing of acidity from the taut 2004 vintage. This is at the top of its game now and the style combines well with the 2004 acidity. Bring on the giant spider crab and abalone! (Photo shows the wine-maker Amiot GUY or Guy AMIOT)
