Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Chalumeaux" 2008, Martelet de Cherisey
What is the impact of new oak? Big busty wines. This premier cru from Martelet de Cherisey, based in the tiny Hameau de Blagny between Meursault and Puligny, is a bit of a monster. Cherries, wild strawberries, apricots. Rich and spicy aromas which are "good fun" as James Simpson MW would say. Hot, massive, chewy, big on the palate. This is not my tastevin of chardonnay but people with run-down taste buds (ie smokers) will enjoy the full flavours. Another wine tasted courtesy of Justerini & Brooks.
