Saint-Aubin "Le Paradis" 2004, Hubert Lamy

Any frequent reader of this blog knows that I taste plenty of the wines from the Domaine Hubert Lamy, made by his son Olivier for the last 5 years or so. Some tasters are hedonists (Robert Parker) whereas I am more of a humanist - connecting wines with people and places. So here we go again. Medium red with hints of orange. Barnyard, forest berries, fragrant and vanillins. Shows the just-ripe 2004 characteristics with rhubarb, raspberry leaf and blanched celery. A medium weight wine, crunchy berries, slightly atringent with medium tangy tannins. Far more evolved than the François parent Monthélie 2004 dégusted at the same blind tasting.
The big question? Would Olivier make a red worth ageing if he had a Beaune or Pommard 1er cru vineyard?
