Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Mouches" 2007, Joseph Drouhin
Courtesy of the Justerini & Brooks Burgundy 2007 tasting. This is a legendary white wine from Joseph Drouhin one of the biggest domaines in Burgundy. As is often the case for chardonnay planted in vineyards that can also be planted with pinot this Clos des Mouches is flattering, broad, ripe, dominated by yellow and green stone fruits (grene gauge, Victoria plum) with a wrapper of sweet buttered leek. Rich on the palate with evident tannins from oak ageing but misses acidity freshness. As the Drouhin domaine claims, this wine may have the fat body of a Corton-Charlemagne but it doesn't have the elegance of Le Montrachet (and costs just one-sixth of the latter).
